The Details: A 60-year-old man who underwent a sleeve gastrectomy at an outpatient surgery center.  An intraoperative complication caused hemodynamic instability.  Patient was transferred by EMS to the hospital. The bleeding was stopped and required a splenectomy.  He was discharged to home 6 days after surgery.  Two days later he developed an acute onset of chest pain and went to the emergency department. A CT angiogram of the chest revealed multiple bilateral pulmonary emboli. Patient was treated and released a few days later.
